Only a slightly more attractive fixture than Albion Rovers ( no offence intended Rovers fans). Hope we get a few more signings before then and can put up a fight.

A reasonably glamorous friendly. Davie Moyes seemed to get them competitive in La Liga after his arrival.

Gutted for my son that we will miss our biggest friendly since probably Ruud Gullit's Newcastle as we are on holiday. I was trying to remember when Moyes brought Preston North End to the Vale and stumbled upon a bit on their site saying they play Motherwell on Friday 24th, the day before we begin our cup defence against Clyde mobile.pnefc.net/news/article/preston-north-end-to-face-motherwell-in-pre-season-friendly-2509405.aspxCan anyone remember when we played the Lilywhites? Sure it was this side of the millennium

I have to say that this is a really good sounding friendly game.
Just have to watch that we don't get blown away as I'm sure that a top La Liga side is quite a bit better than us.
I'll take a draw.

What? No hoping we pump this mob from your usual vantage point?
A draw? That would be almost as good a result as beating QoS on the last day of the season!

Is Moyes a pal to livi? Sounded like he's visited before...maybe there's a player or two he'd like to lend us? :-)

Of course, a pumping of this lot would be great! I'm just trying to temper my expectations for once.
Are we looking at their top side then?

They're over playing Celtic so don't think it'll just be a Real Sociedad XI playing us, maybe their big guns will just make sub appearances though, throwing them on when we score a couple of goals and look like beating them.

Talking to a saints supporter today ,he says they're playing them on the Sunday ...by my reckoning that's 3 games in 3 days .

I wonder what size of squad they've brought over!

So it looks like this might not be the glamour tie after all? Especially if it is there third game in 3 days.

Ahh but they'll rest all their best players so they are ready to take us on!

What would our strongest starting line upbe?
I'd like to see
DJ
- Millen, Ben, Cole, Longridge
- Georgiev, Pittman, Gibbons, Hippo
- White, Buchanan.

.........................White.................... Hippo...............Buchanan...........Mullen ................Cole..............Pittman......... Longridge.....Gordon.......Neill.......Millen .............................DJ........................
Still leaves us a few other options too - Sives, Currie, Gibbons, Georgiev, Glen, Sheerin, Burchill.
It'll all boil down to the system Burchill wants to play though. Gibbons won't have come here to sit on the bench, he could have done that Aberdeen so that might see him play more. Georgiev looked confident and direct on the ball so now qualms with him either. I fancy Ryan Currie to push Millen for the right back position though - he looks ready to step in if given the chance.

Have we signed him or is he officially one of the infamous T Riallist brothers?
With regard to this game....I suspect the fact that we have yet to concede a goal & the Basques have yet to score will all change this evening. Not that I'm being negative or anything. In fact I would almost go as far as to say I hope it changes tonight cause I'd like to see a few goals...preferably scored by us but I suspect not given they only lost 1-0 to Celts & got a 0-0 with Saints.

First look at our new signings tonight and thought they all did well. It was a good game and competitive, a few crunching tackles but the ref let things flow .bring on the 'Well

Yeah thought we played well tonight, passed it around well not panicking getting it out of defence or in midfield. We wont play any teams as good on the ball as Sociedad this season so not bothered we didn't get a goal.
Buchanan looks a fantastic signing with his constant buzzing around defenders jumping on any loose balls, thought Mullen looked good too. Pittman and Hippolyte shone as well, all looking very promising for the season.

My first sighting of the team too; mildly impressed; some good play tonight with skill & tenacity. I thought the ref penalised us harshly on a couple of hard but fair challenges where we won the ball. Also thought Buchanan was on side when he chased down a through ball, as he seemed to run past a defender or two to get to it. Wrong end of the pitch to be sure but I thought the goal could have been offside. It was a decent move & finish (even if DJ nearly stopped it) though.

I thought we were pretty decent last night.
Looked very strong in the tackle and looked, for the most part, like a team with real tactics and positional sense.
The subs break up the rhythm of play but a couple of times where they sliced right through us apart I'd say we looked reasonably solid.

decent run out thought we moved the ball around very well, Gibbons in midfield worked hard and had a bit of bite in his game, could turn out to be a decent box to box player. Still think Hippo needs to get more involved but overall better than I expected

We were quite pleased with our play last night and have now got high hopes fro this season now if we play like that every week. The crowd seemed large but was announced as 800 which isn't too good I think we need double that for full time football.
