He maintained that he didn't use a weapon, that someone else must have, but he didn't deny his involvement & showed remorse & regret that he got involved. Was our outstanding defender last season. Obviously the judge didn't believe him & that certainly makes it seem like he has committed a heinous crime but I hope this doesn't end a promising career.

He may have been outstanding but what a way to end such a promising career, what an idiot involved or not, and what about the victim in all this, he is the one that suffered the most

Although he may not have been entirely innocent himself - reports during the trial suggested he was at the very least antagonising other people. Also, he apparently lost his job because of the injuries he sustained, which seems to be a tad heartless of the employer...leading me to think the employer wasn't particularly impressed at his involvement.

Don't want to go bumping my gums too much about an incident I didn't witness but I did find it odd that irrespective of what happened early in the evening Stevens apparently chose to go out and confront the car containing Gallagher; Murray (his uncle?) and one other who really weren't there just to talk. Wouldn't the more sensible thing be to withdraw into the relative safety of the hotel particularly if it was clear that at least one of the protagonists was "tooled up"? I appreciate Stevens was probably wound up and his girlfriend had apparently been assaulted earlier in the evening but surely there must have been better ways to deal with it than going out and squaring up to a mob (if three people can be described as a mob)?

We all make mistakes. It's how you deal with them that counts. He will probably be out with a tag in 12 to 18 months.
