Livi’s war veteran Jason Talbot ready for last dayJason Talbot doesnt fear the threat from Queen of the SouthLivingston captain Jason Talbot has been through it all since his arrival from Port Vale in the summer of 2008. From the despair of the club plunging into administration a year into his move north, to the sheer jubilation of leading his team to Petrofac Training Cup glory against Alloa almost four weeks ago. That said, Livi have left it rather late in their bid to avoid relegation this term, a five-point deduction imposed by the SPFL in November for tax irregularities having threatened to end the club’s stay in Scottish football’s second tier for much of this season. Nevertheless, last weekend’s terrific 4-0 win away at Raith Rovers lifted the Lions off the foot of the table for the first time in six months at the expense of Danny Lennon’s Alloa Athletic and has now given real hope that Livi can pull off what would be a miraculous escape. With Queen of the South, who have already secured their spot in the Premiership play-offs, the visitors to the Energy Assets Arena tomorrow and the Wasps hosting Cowdenbeath, who are just a point better off than Livi in eighth, this weekend promises to be an exciting finale to the domestic season. However, tomorrow’s clash could also signify Talbot’s final appearance in a yellow jersey as the 29-year-old, similarly to many of his team-mates, is out of contract at the end of the month. “My contract is up this month and there hasn’t been any discussions yet to extending that,” Talbot told the Evening News. “But that goes for everyone else at the club purely on the fact that we don’t know yet what division we will be playing in at this moment in time. “Everyone’s focus is solely on surviving and making sure we’re in this league next season and that’s always been the case. “It seems to have been a tough season ever since I’ve been with Livingston. But being captain this season has been an honour for me so it’s been about experience. There have been a lot of changes from when I first came up here at 22. “I think it would be such an achievement for everyone at the club if we were to stay up. It’s been a real tough season so it will be down to all the hard work the boys have put in and the hours the management team have gone through as well.” Despite having already secured fourth place and a crack at winning promotion to the top flight, the Doonhamers will be keen to take some momentum into next weekend’s first-leg clash against either Hibs or Rangers. But, having beaten the Dumfries outfit twice already this season in both the Petrofac and League Cups, Talbot isn’t fazed by the threat James Fowler’s side poses. “Whatever team Queens put out we know we can beat them so it doesn’t really matter what XI is out in front of us,” Talbot stressed. “Of course the results haven’t gone our way too often this season, but we’ve generally been in the position to give teams a good game. “We’ve been showing some good form since the turn of the year but, as I said, results just haven’t gone our way. The cup win last month has certainly helped us. “Every game has been like a cup final for the past six or seven weeks so the build up this week hasn’t really been any different to any other week we’ve experienced. “I’ve certainly not seen any extra nerves throughout training this week where it was more obvious before the cup final if I’m being honest. Everyone knows how a big a game tomorrow is and what we need to do. We’re hoping there is going to be a good turnout from our fans.” A Livingston victory tomorrow wouldn’t be enough to avoid a relegation play-off semi-final with League 1’s Brechin City should the Blue Brazil grind out a win of their own at the Indodrill Stadium. But Talbot says the club is just grateful to still be in with a chance given the adversity this year. He said: “We’ve been at the bottom for so long so it’s been great this week to see ourselves finally off that spot. But we just need to focus on tomorrow and do what we need to do as results elsewhere will take care of themselves. “We haven’t even looked beyond tomorrow. You can’t look too far ahead so none of us have even really thought about the play-offs. But we’ll take it if it comes if that’s where we end up.” Contrary to rumours about Talbot being on the brink of quitting the game in wake of his much-publicised tackle on Hearts’ Sam Nicholson earlier in the season, he said: “I never ever thought about hanging up my boots or anything like that. I basically distanced myself from what was going around on social media and said what I needed to say at the time on it, so that’s it as far as I am concerned.” www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/livingston/livi-s-war-veteran-jason-talbot-ready-for-last-day-1-3759878

The bandage on his head in that picture looks like it's been done on Microsoft Paint.
Been nervous for this all week, hopefully get a good turn out and a good result (both at the Vale and the Indodrill)

Well done Livingston . Won a cup and kept our place in the league - turned out to be a "not too bad" season. Let's hope the directorship can get organised; get signing ban lifted; avoid us having 5 points deducted again. Playing team has done the job. Directors getting on the ball would be good.
What a difference Cole, Gallagher (immense today), Sives and Pittman have made.

I can't believe it. From being utterly down and out under McGlynn it's hats off to Burchill and the boys as they've properly turned it around. Well done lads! You did it despite everything the club board and the SFA/SPFL put in your way!

The great escape if you told me couple months ago livi would be going to last game of the season still in with a chance of staying up would have laughed it of the petrofac win has given us the confidence to believe well done to the players and especially to burchill though at time was crazy giving himthe job but he deserves a contract now

Absolutely incredible turnaround over the last few weeks. Congratulations to Mark Burchill for changing everything that needed changing. Amazing run in, including the cup win, and a fabulous series of wins (including 4 of the last 5). Good signings too, such as Piman and Cole. Sives has played well in the last couple of games too. We didn't play as well today but nerves and the opposition played a part in that. Even so, some brave and strong performances including Pitman and Kyle (wonderful penalty in the circumstances!). What a relief. What a season. Let's sort out things behind the scenes now. Get the embargo lifted, sign those players we need to keep. I'm away for a shower and some diazepam for my dinner.........

I've given these guys some justifiable stick this season but they deserve nothing but praise for their performances in the last 8 games. today was an almost flawless performance even DJ's kicking was pinpoint.
Anyway well done guys you have done yourselves the fans and club proud today. Go out and get blootered tonight.
Oh and finally, GET IT RIGHT FECKING UP YOU SFA/SPFL. NEXT SEASON GO AND PICK ON ONE OF THE BIG CLUBS IF YOU'VE GOT THE BALLS TO DO IT.

Well I for one was convinced we were going down; even going into the game today I envisaged us losing & Alloa getting at least a point which would have sent us down. But while not hitting the heights of some recent performances we again gave everything. Fantastic penalty in the circumstances; delighted for Kyle as he has taken some stick over the season but I was delighted to see him back. Gallagher in particular & Sives were excellent, Talbot was immense & refused to rise to the obvious bating he was getting in the 1st half. QoS didn't lie down but I would say they weren't too bothered about going behind...that said, I dare say that if the opportunity arose to score they would have tried to do so.
Pittman was tremendous, Keighan had moments of class & moments he'd no doubt rather forget, ditto Hippolyte, Mullen should have had a pen IMO before the one he did win & tried like a bear against bigger & stronger opponents. Burton must have been getting a nose bleed towards the end, never seen him so far up the pitch in years! Dycey coped well & posed a threat. DJ had very little to do (thankfully) but seemed to keep his concentration (thankfully). White, Glen & Cole all played their part when coming on.
Fantastic to have completed the great escape, a month ago I'd have bitten your hand off for being beaten finalists in the Petrofac & finishing 9th to make the play-offs & here we are with the cup in the cabinet & our status secured. Fantastic end to a very trying & difficult season where we haven't always been as bad as our position suggests but on occasion were as woeful as we have ever been.
Message to the club ownership....get the Rankine situation sorted before this mockery of a governing body decides to dock us more points & so we can start putting the side together for next season. There are a good few players that we should be looking to re-sign because we now know what they are capable of; our form since the cup final has been "championship" form which is why we are now safe.
Great to see so many folk in the home stand too....get the price right & they will come.

Just about recovered after a beer or three last night!
Well done to Mark Burchill and the lads! I was resigned to relegation a good while back but the transformation in results has been unbelievable.
Happy days!

Epic fail - The Board - sadly!
Collective effort from everyone and the board have not helped this season.
