A short report on the latest Queen of the South warm up game: General News Posted on 22/7/2014 14:32 Queens Draw at Newcastle The pre-season finished today with a closed door friendly at Newcastle United`s training ground against their u21 side. The match was an entertaining and high-scoring 4-4 draw which provided a much sterner test than Rotherham`s youths on Saturday. Queens started with an attacking line up and led 2-0 at half time thanks to two goals from Gavin Reilly. However, the young Newcastle side, which included French full internationals Hatem Ben Arfa and Gabriel Obertan, quickly found their form in the second period, scoring three quick goals to take the lead. Queens were far from finished though and a spectacular strike from substitute Kevin Dzierzawski made it 3-3 before Iain Russell scored to give us the lead again. However the home side equalised with virtually the last kick to leave things all square. The side will now concentrate on preparations for the cup tie with Livingston on Saturday. www.qosfc.com/new_newsview.aspx?newsid=2399

Queen of the South 3-4 Livingston It took an extra-time goal from debutant David Robertson to edge a seven-goal thriller Livingston's way. Queens raced to a two-goal lead after Andrew Dowie's header was followed by Iain Russell's close-range strike. Craig Sives nodded home to give Livi hope and they levelled through Daniel Mullen's right-footed effort. The visitors struck first in extra time as Myles Hippolyte netted but they were pegged back by Michael Paton's shot before Robertson scored from six yards. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28381953

Queen of the South 3-4 Livingston Russell slams the ball into the net [for Queens 2nd]Queens surrendered a two-goal advantage in today`s Petrofac Training Cup clash with Livingston at Palmerston, and as a result they were sent crashing out of the competition at the first hurdle as their Championship rivals won through to the next round after a 4-3 extra-time victory. Things looked bright for Queens as they moved into a two-goal advantage, but thanks to some really poor defending, they allowed their visitors the chance to level the game, and eventually after an extra 30 minutes of play, go on to claim the win. www.qosfc.com/new_report.aspx?fixtureid=1076

Excellent win in the end. Even at 2-0 down, I didn't think we were playing particularly badly but couldn't see us fighting back at that point. Huge credit to the guys for digging deep and getting back in to it. At 2-2, I couldn't see anyone other than us winning that game.
Pass marks for most yesterday - DJ, Sives, Mullen and McKenna standing out especially though. Mention to O'Brien too for two excellent assists.
Ogleby and Glen done a power of running and probably helped tire out the QOTS backline by the time they were replaced for White and Hippolyte. Those two were then able to run at them again and caused huge problems.
McKenna was the stand out man for me though. To come from junior level and put in a shift like that - I reckon he'll be a bit of a fan favourite this season!
Excellent to have our name in the hat for round two. Good starts chaps!

Great result!
As LL21 says, I couldn't see us getting back in to the game at 2 nil down but getting the quick goal seemed to rock Queens back a bit.
Take no notice of the awful Queens website match report - this was a game that we deserved to win! If nothing else, we stuck the ball in their onion bag more times than they ours. So away n sh*te, whoever wrote that nonsense!
Looking forward to pumping Albion Rovers next Saturday already!

I predict a riot! I really do. I stand corrected. Hats off to McGlynn. Early days, I know, but we really worked hard for the win and although it was disappointing to be two goals down it was really more a case of them taking there chances rather than us being rubbish. We we're always there or there about all afternoon. Well worth making the journey down to Dumfries. An added bonus too in we missed all the rain in Livi!

John McGlynn thrilled by Livingston cup comebackLivingston boss John McGlynn hailed his side’s fighting spirit as they fought back from two goals down to edge Queen of the South 4-3 after extra-time in the first round of the Petrofac Training Cup. McGlynn’s men faced an uphill struggle at Palmerston Park after former Livi striker Iain Russell added to Andrew Dowie’s first-half header. But ex-Hearts defender Craig Sives, again a headed effort, started the fightback just two minutes later before Daniel Mullen restored parity with a right-footed effort after 65 minutes. Neither side could force a winner in normal time so it was left to substitute and new signing Myles Hippolyte to put the Lions ahead for the first time in the match after eight minutes of additional play. But the hosts wouldn’t be denied and Michael Paton equalised shortly after the restart of extra-time before another new addition by McGlynn, this time David Robertson, netted from six yards with five minutes left to seal Livingston’s passage into the second round. McGlynn praised the attitude of his squad for their desire to come back from two goals down. www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/livingston/john-mcglynn-thrilled-by-livingston-cup-comeback-1-3490692

McKenna was very impressive. The strikers all looked much of a muchness but good to have a bit of depth there. I feel that White and Glen will be our front 2 this season with Hipplolite coming off the bench more often than not. Gallagher struggled a bit a CB but I think him and Mensing will make a pretty formiddable partnership this season.

I'm not so sure I'd have Mensing coming straight in for Sives at centre back - I think he'll feature more regularly than initially thought. If anything, I reckon Talbot coming in for Rutherford is likely to be the most obvious change with the other 3 (Sives, Gallagher and Fordyce) being the first choice backline with Mensing focusing more on the coaching side of things but offering a more than reliable back-up when injuries/suspensions kick in.

David Robertson seals extra special Livingston debutLocal lad David Robertson ended Livingston's Challenge Cup jinx after netting late winner in season opener against Queen of the South. Livingston finally ended their Challenge Cup hoodoo in the most dramatic of fashions with an extra-time victory over Queen of the South. In the season opener, Livingston came from 2-0 down to win 4-3 in Dumfries, having exited at the first-round stage in each of the last two years. And it looked like it would be three campaigns without victory shortly after half-time as the Lions looked down and out after strikes from Andy Dowie and ex-Livi striker Iain Russell. However, goals from Craig Sives and Danny Mullen saw the teams level at the end of 90 minutes. Debutant Myles Hippolyte scored 10 minutes into the extra period, but Queens grabbed a dramatic equaliser through Michael Paton. However, David Robertson popped up with the winner in a topsy-turvy affair five minutes from time. www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/david-robertson-seals-extra-special-3942928?
