Livingston supporters team set for IFA British Cup semi-final clash
FC Livingston GS, the Livingston FC supporters team, will be looking to clinch a place in the IFA British Cup final next week.
They travel to Gretna on Saturday, June 7 to face Runcorn Linnets.
And after a run which has seen them defeat the likes of Manchester United and West Brom, captain and secretary David Black says the reigning British and Scottish league champions are more than capable of getting the win.
“Maybe on paper others will assume we’re favourites because of our success last season, but a lot can change year to year.
“We’ve never done particularly well in this cup so we’re just delighted to get to this stage, of the competition, especially on the back of the results we’ve had to get here.
“Runcorn had an excellent 6-0 win away to a strong Bury side in the last round so they’ll not be seeing themselves as underdogs, that’s for sure.
“They’re not a team we’ve played before, but they beat the Clyde supporters team, Bully Wee United, in the first round so we’ll be getting in touch with them to see if they have any tips for us.”
Striker Richard Harrison and vice-captain Mark McGinty are set to miss the trip, but Black is confident that the squad can step up.
“We’re in a fortunate position in that the quality of the squad is high
“Even if we’re missing some key players, we have guys ready to replace them and put in a good performance.”
That was evident last week when they defeated Scottish title rivals KaisAyr 4-2, despite missing five players that Black says would usually be in the starting line-up.
“That win just speaks volumes about the depth of squad we have here,” said Black.
“We took a squad of 15 to that game and got a fantastic win against a good side.”
And the big games don’t end with the Runcorn clash either as the club are just three games away from clinching the Scottish league title along with the Scottish Cup final.
Black admitted it was an exciting time to be part of the club, saying: “Some people never get the chance to win a trophy and over the next few weeks, we’re still in with a chance of winning three.
“We’re all really excited to head down to Gretna next week and hopefully we can get a result to put us in the final in Preston in July.”
Preston are the defending champions, having defeated Hearts on penalties last year, and are set to take on Southport in the other semi-final.
Livingston defeated Halifax 4-2 in the first round thanks to a Black hat-trick and a strike from Stephen Lyon.
They followed that up with a 3-2 win over West Brom and a 3-0 triumph over Manchester United at Creamery Park in Bathgate last month.
On Saturday, June 21 they are set to face KaisAyr in the Scottish Cup final as they hope to complete an incredible treble.
