Excellent goal by Goetze to win the World Cup; first sub to score the winner in the final. Argies had better chances during the game but clearly had no confidence they could beat Neuer. Germans had the best of the play so probably just deserved to edge it. How Neuer got awarded a free kick when he flattened Higuain was baffling...shades of Schumacher against Batiston only not as bad & at least Neuer went for the ball. Messi was a shadow of his normal self & IMO was NOT the player of the tournament; he did well in the group matches & set up the winner against the Swiss but was fairly anonymous against Belgium & after half time in both the semi & the final. Disappointing; I wanted him to win it.

I thought it was a shocker of a challenge by the keeper! Led with his knee and fully took the player out at head height.
Can't argue with Germany winning though. Argentina just didn't do enough to deserve anything from the game.
Would have preferred to have seen penalties though.

I don't disagree but he did get the ball unlike Schumacher who blatantly assaulted Batiston & didn't even attempt to touch the ball.
Argentina had some good counter attacks, Messi threatened to produce a real performance for a while but petered out; Higuain's first miss was terrible & if Aguero had been fit, which IMO he wasn't, he might have been capable of hitting his Man City form of a couple of years ago; as it was he failed to even hit the form of the tail end of last season.
Both sides have excellent penalties records; Germany have never lost on pens at the World Cup although Denmark beat them in a Euros & Argentina have only lost once on pens at the World Cup...to Germany.
