Just reading the following interview from Mark McGhee -
www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2639990/Mark-McGhee-fears-Scottish-Premiership-damaged-absence-big-clubs.html
He says the Scottish game will be damaged by the absence of Hibs, Hearts and the Rangers from the Premiership.
Firstly, after Glasgow Rangers went out of business, if anything, I think the game has thrived. Not only has the excitement grown in both the leagues and the cup, the National side have performed better.
Now, with Hearts and Hibs both being relegated, I've already noticed an increased intesrest in our game with folk all over the place going on about how exciting our division will be next season given the sides involved. Now, had Inverness and St Mirren came down with Hearts and Hibs keeping their places in the Premiership, no-one would have batted an eyelid and things would have continued as they were.
I actually think those teams being in the second tier has made things more exciting. OK, Celtic will cruise to the league title but that would have been the case if Hearts and Hibs had been there anyway. Without those two, it also focuses more attention on the other sides battling it out for the top places - Motherwell, Aberdeen, Dundee United etc.
Again, not quite as big a derby but you've got the Dundee derby back for the first time in years and I know Motherwell and Hamilton will be looking forward to meeting too.
He also suggests that the 3 clubs mentioned should be producing a good proportion of players for the National side. What absolute rubbish. Even before this season, the Scotland side wasn't overcrowded with players from Hearts, Hibs and the Rangers anyway.
OK, the Scottish game isn't the multi-billion pound business that the English game is but I for one think the upcoming season has the potential to be one of the best for a long time.
