Livingston manager McGlynn calls for improvement ahead of Falkirk clash

John McGlynn has challenged his players to put their last display at the Falkirk Stadium behind them as they take on the Bairns on Saturday.

Livingston lost 4-1 to Gary Holt’s side in November, which the manager described as one of the worst displays of the season.

McGlynn said: “We went there earlier in the season and we played very poorly indeed.

“We want to make up for that performance and we certainly have to play better.

“We need to get that consistency into the side as we keep taking steps back.

“Every game is massive now and there will be nerves kicking about. Falkirk are chasing the title and we’re chasing the play-offs, so the game is big for both sides.

“We just have to make sure that it doesn’t happen to us and we can go out there and get the job done.”

Livingston climbed to within three points of the play-offs with a 1-0 win over Cowdenbeath at the Energy Assets Arena last weekend.

BAIRNS READY FOR PRESSURE GAMES

Sixth place Livingston are the latest visitors to the Falkirk Stadium, when they make their fourth attempt of the season to take points from the home side.

Three wins, three losses and a draw in the last seven league outings, illustrates just how unpredictable the form of the men from West Lothian is. Gary Holt will take no chances though and is expecting a hard game. “Livingston will be keen to avenge those defeats and we must be at our best to take three points again.”

TWO weeks ago Falkirk’s title challenge was seemingly kept alive by the awarding of a debatable late penalty. Yesterday they were the recipient of another such gift, but their failure to take it may ultimately kill their championship aspirations.

Once again it was Mark Millar standing over the dead ball from 12 yards. Just as he did against Queen of the South, the midfielder chose to drive it straight down the middle. This time Darren Jamieson stuck out a leg to deny Falkirk the points.

Falkirk 1 Livingston 1: Phil Roberts sees red and Mark Millar misses late penalty as Bairns drop points

Tempers flared as Falkirk were awarded a penalty

HIL ROBERTS saw red for the second time this season and Mark Millar missed a late penalty as Falkirk blew the chance to go top.

Arsenal academy graduate Roberts was dismissed for aiming a headbutt during a 10-man brawl after Simon Mensing had brought down Craig Sibbald in the box six minutes from time.

But Bairns boss Gary Holt will appeal the sending-off if video evidence clears his striker and he’s raging that Mensing escaped with a yellow card for sparking the whole incident.

Holt said: “I think it was a penalty and then it was handbags as usual.We ’ll have a look at it and see if we can appeal. Apparently it’s an attempted headbutt. Phil denies it so we will look at the video and make a decision.

“As usual the guy who starts the trouble gets away with it.”
