Delighted with this - especially the fact it's a 2-year deal. I thought O'Brien was superb after joining last season and he was obviously a favourite in the dressing room, winning the players PotY award.

His passing technique/ability is unbelievable and he often proved a calm head in behind the attacking players.

So that leaves us just waiting on news on Watson, Docherty, Kyle and McNulty, I think?

Only played half a season so not my PotY, but he might have been had he played all season and to the same standard.....I'd have him as "vice-captain" with Mensing as the cap. Delighted he has signed. But with the club now signing some experience & punting some young guys is there a change in policy from when the two Johnnies arrived?

O'Brien extends Livingston stay

South African-born midfielder Burton O'Brien has signed a new contract at Scottish First Division side Livingston.

O'Brien, who was born in Johannesburg, signed a new two-year deal that will keep him at the Lions till 2015.

Burton was part of the famous Livingston side that lifted the League Cup in 2004 and returned for a second spell last season.

The 31-year old, who is currently in his second spell at Almondvale, has played at St.Mirren, Blackburn Rovers and Sheffield Wednesday.

Livingston assistant manager Mark Burchill had the following to say about the midfielder on the club's official website:

“In my opinion, Burton is the best ball playing midfielder in the League.

“Any team at our level would want to sign a player of his quality, so we are absolutely delighted that he has decided to stay with us,” said Burchill.
