With an inspiring young team, why was Gareth Evans sacked?
IT came with all the force of a whisper amid the overwhelming rumbles of a gathering storm.
The dismissal of Gareth Evans, the manager of Livingston, and the subsequent resignation of John Collins, director of football, last week did not attract the scale of scrutiny afforded to a series of league matches and the furore over the independent verdict on Rangers' wrongdoing over EBTs.
Yet it deserves investigation, not least after newspaper reports suggesting Evans was the victim of some sort of "dressing-room revolt". This theory was dismissed fervently by players at the club yesterday. The assertion that the manager had in cliched terms "lost the dressing room" was the only one that made sense to outsiders. Evans was not dismissed because of poor form on the pitch. As the the club conceded in a statement, the sacking was made "despite results being generally acceptable".
But any hint of rebellion by the players was quashed last night in player conversations with Herald Sport. One player said: "There have been reports that we were upset by the double and triple training sessions but this is simply not true. For a start, Gareth was continuing the sort of sessions that we had under Gary Bollan. Quite simply, the stuff was basically the same and the mood of the players was generally good."

LIVINGSTON DETERMINED TO KEEP EVANS SACKING ISSUES UNDER WRAPS
We spoke to Stefan Scougall after the match and asked him about the events on Thursday. Before the young Livingston player, who was particularly impressive in an attacking midfield role on Saturday, could answer, the media officer politely interjected with "No. We're not discussing anything surrounding Thursday's events today. That's not what we're here for."

We have a Media Officer but still issue poorly constructed vague press releases and have no meaningful means of communication between Club and Fans?

mmmmmm. Something doesn't seem right in all of this. I bet the board will have thought of an excuse by the fans meeting on Thursday. Anyway, who is our press officer? Talk about keeping fans in the dark? I didn't even know we had one.

Thursday will no doubt answer all these questions.
It was clear the on Saturday that the club want to communicate better with the fans when big decisions are made.

None of the messages in the press today would seem to tally with previous messages posted online by people a lot closer to all this than the fans. A case of closing ranks?
Not that that's a bad thing, it's just a bit confusing for those looking on from the outside.

I think the media officer is Paul (security guy) think it's a case of he ensures that the people giving interviews are looked after than he manages the press or the clubs press releases, but i may be wrong.
I am pretty sure I read that when he was interviewed for ROAR - may be wrong (just in case LiviLions take it as gospel)

AS I said yesterday hope Thursday clears it up for fans, as all the messages just don't add up.

What I want to know is why didn't Collins sack Evans, if as he says he was brought in to hire and fire the managers. Did he bottle it? Just why did he choose to walk? Was he even aware that Evans was for the chop? So are the players happy that Evans and Collins are gone, or not? These questions must be answered!

I could go on to tell you about this one time, in 2nd year, when I was playing 'Football Manager' on my mates Spectrum and there was a shock resignation by my head coach midst rumours of inappropriate behavior towards the tea lady, but that's a story for another time. 100% fact!

There's always the possibility that JC had his eye on a role elsewhere and seen this as a great opportunity to jump ship. Craigy Broon's jacket's on a shoogly peg - wonder if he's in with a shout of taking his philosophy up there?
Anyway, looking forward to Thursday night. Certainly be interesting to hear what the board have to say.

Original statement said something about concerns over his stewardship of the club. Harlem Shake?

That is the sole responsibility of the board. Stewardship was the word used in the statement from GN; its just another word for management, often used in connection with money. The board are also stewards but at a higher level than the manager.

Not that that's a bad thing, it's just a bit confusing for those looking on from the outside.[/b] I would agree with you about being confusing to those looking on from the outside. Evidence that would back your viewpoint up on this would be the courier and the interview on the subject with the CEO. I believe at one point he mentions that the board "had doubts about Evans being able to do the job", which is a judgement call they will have to make, but they then still allowed the appointment? Statements like that do not appeal to future investors, as I witnessed on dragons den last night.
