Would be a right kick in the Niagra Falls if Hopkin upped sticks and went to Paisley!

I understand why St Midden would want him but I’m not sure why he would want them. Not sure their fans would want him either due to his historical Morton connections.
If he went to them there would immediately be greater expectations on him, if I was them I’d expect to challenge for 6th. If he stays with us... well we’ll be relegation favourites, so finishing 10th would be like winning the league. The only thing that might sway him would be if he thinks he has taken us as far as he can... but I’d be very surprised if he thought that given the season we’ve just had... as he has said, it is a fairly young squad, that sounds like he thinks it can improve with coaching as well as by adding experienced players. He has regularly praised the board for supporting his signings too, which suggests a decent relationship.

I can’t see Hoppy moving to Carlisle or Morton, given that he’d be leaving a club in the Premiership to go back down the leagues. St Mirren is different of course. There are shenanigans going on there, again, that could result in him being given relatively big bucks to spend. It seems Jack Ross softenened the blow to him leaving Paisley by offering to make St Mirren’s Kyle McGennis his first signing. Talk of £1m makes it clear that this is really dodgy. Alex Neil did the same when he left Hamilton for Norwich, giving his former club a big pay day. Also, if Sunderland bought John McGinn - although he should be aiming much higher than League One - St Mirren would benefit by another £1m it seems. Livi can’t compete with those funds. Loyalty is a rare commodity on football but it would be wonderful if Hoppy stayed to fight for a year of survival in the Premiership with Livi. I think it will affect which players are likely to stay too. It’s a big week ahead.

I’ll admit I was doubtful about his appointment but after going down he has really stamped the squad as his team & won me over so much I’m currently wearing an “In Hoppy We Trust” t-shirt.
Hoppy - stay & see how far you can take these boys in the top tier... you know you want too. Much better to give it a go than to wonder “what if?”

They are offering more money than we can and he has an affinity with Morton.

Yes, he is from Greenock, played for them & may even be a Morton fan historically. The pull of managing your team has to be a major factor... but so too must be the pull of testing yourself at the highest level, which would mean having a crack at keeping us up. Ray McKinnon has also been strongly linked with them.

We’re all doomed!
Don’t really see it that way myself, he deserves the opportunity to think over his options.
Ray McKinnon has apparently gotten the Morton job, so you may have got that one wrong

he deserves the opportunity to think over his options Don't tell me that he's waited until now to even think about it - he's had all season! He either wants to stay or he doesn't. I'd be disappointed if he wanted to go but ended up staying either because he failed the paper sifts or there were no better offers from other clubs.

Couldn't see him going to Morton, I know all the connections he has there, including being a major shareholder, but it is still a step backwards and would take more than just the one season to get them shaped into how he'd want them. I don't think he'd want to spend that time when he's already done it with us, he's not really a young manager in years. The not wanting to wait on Hoppy for a decision while he's away on his hols probably works in our favour, we're happy for him to do that, not many other clubs will be, so that should take him of their wish lists. Hopefully that gives the club time to get organised and well prepared to get things moving when he comes back, there is a lot of work to do behind the scenes now we've moved up to the top tier.

I can see it from both sides, but you have made a very good point Pedro, Hoppy has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't want a player who isn't fully committed to being here, seems the football boot is on the other foot now. Come on Hoppy, practice what you preach my good fellow.

I think it is quite clear from interviews in the press & on TV during the play offs that he has been thinking about it during the season. However, interest in his services has only just arisen following the success of this season & the departure of Jack Ross from St Midden... as such why shouldn’t he consider his options? If I go for an interview & get offered the job I weigh up what I have against what I could have, why should he be any different? There may be many reasons why I want to stay but if I get offered something that is way beyond my current “package” then that might sway me to leave. I don’t read anywhere that he wants to go.

Ah well... I hadn’t read anywhere that he wanted to go when I made that last post... Hoppy exceeded my expectations of him by some distance & gave the town a team to be proud of. For that, he has my full gratitude & appreciation. If he goes down south then I wish him every success, if he goes to St Midden, I hope they get relegated!!
