I think Ashley from Asda should have a stint, her instructions can be heard for at least a twenty mile radius so the whole of the West Lothian community, and beyond, will benefit from her tactical wisdom. The Cowden players were following her instructions to our boys today & managed to draw level in their game.

Any news or progress on a new manager?
Board said they acted with the end of the season in sight and only a few payers signed up for next season.
New man will be running out of games to see who he wants signed for next season.

My suggestion would be a "super star" player to act as a player manager, with his wages as break-even +ve attendance.

I've no idea if he'll have applied or be interested but I wouldn't mind Craig Levein at all.
All be it his stint as Scotland manager wasn't excellent but when managing clubs in Scotland (Cowden, Hearts & Dundee Utd), he's got a pretty decent record.
I don't imagine money would be an issue as he'll have made a tidy wee earning while at Scotland but it would certainly get him back in the game with a good club and a chance to impress bigger sides if he pushes us towards promotion.
I'm sure he actually started out with a coach with us a way back in the mid 90's before taking the Cowdenbeath job too.

Think he left United because they were going to have to cut his wages - don't imagine we'd be able to offer the money he'd have been on there. Like Levein though, I guess it depends how desperate these guys are to get back in the game.

I can't see Avril wanting to boss a small club with a limited support and budget who insist on promoting youth wherever possible.
He's too billy big time for that.
Why, he sets his team out with no players up front he's that good.
The unshaven big heed wouldn't even get past my paper sift.

To avoid someone jumping ship at the very first opportunity, I'd go for any of the following individuals if they want it, or indeed, if the Board feel they're up to the task.
Stuart Lovell
Liam Fox Derek Lilley Lee Makel Barry Wilson
David Bingham

I think the new manager has to have had some experience in management, as all too often in the past we have given the job to first timers who are having to learn as they go.
Successful ex-players do not always make successful managers and I would prefer someone who has learned from their mistakes over making them

Im not sure if the majority of people posting suggestions are actually on message in regards to the boards mission statement. As mentioned previously those managers that have had experience in Scottish football will have been tainted by it. They would have found success or been punished through the modal style prevalent in Scotland. Those suggesting Livingston players that have experienced our new mentality in recent years are a better bet. My question about them would be if they do not achieve instant success, what else can they bring to the club. The suggestion of an untried "name" will at least have the possibility of filling the empty seats we have a surplus of. "old names" will only maintain old ways of doing things, getting "old results" success without improvement of the club being their best possible outcome, not what the board wants.

According to the West Lothian Courier Sports Editor's Facebook page, the 4 names leading the shortlist are Richie Burke, Alex Cleland, Mark Burchill, and John McGlynn.
To quote -
"Richie Burke, Alex Cleland, Mark Burchill, and John McGlynn head up shortlist for the Livingston Football Club management job. Much more in tomorrow's paper."

Richie Burke - in situ, ticks all the clubs boxes. Alex Clelland - missed out to Boolan and Hughes for Livi hotseat, been coaching at St.Johnstone where, I believe, he is well respected. Mark Burchill - no track record to speak of, played at a high level so no lack of playing experience John McGlynn - wears red glasses
Ach, I just dunno?

Not read todays Courier yet but I wonder what the timescale is for appointing the new manager?
I'm sure that most applicants will have other irons in the fire so if a decision is delayed then we may miss the boat on our preferred option.

Can't get my head around Burchill being a front runner. He's 32. Spent 2010-12 playing in Cyprus, and if Wikipedia is to be believed, he is currently playing in Thailand (or at least was in the recent future).
What will he know of the current squad being out of Scotland for that length of time. And Scottish football as a whole.
Guess the board must see something in him for him to be in the running though...

Despite the results being favourable Evans was sacked as the Board appeared to lack long term faith in him. Would Burke be any different as he seems like another coach who has had management thrust upon him.
Burchill is a local lad, but other than that he has nothing going for him at this time to be a manager.
Cleland was a good coach for us and did well with developing younger players in his previous stint and maybe some of those guys are now in the first team? Would not be unhappy if he got the job.
McGlynn again has a decent background in youth development and did well at Raith until they missed out on promotion and released their entire first team. Perhaps he would be a gamble, but maybe a safer one than Burchill. Although as he was fired from Hearts a few hours before Evans was shown the door I am sure there will be no shortage of negative press as people join the dots and find one and one is three

Hopefully whoever gets the gig gets the full backing of the support. I don't think Hughes was given a fair chance by certain sections of the Livi support because they were still crawling out Bollan's rear so fingers crossed this a fresh slate for everyone - supporters and new guy alike and we all get right behind him.
