Told Rory would be attending county trials with his schoolmates on a Friday afternoon for example, four hours before Livingston training, the club’s head of youth expressed his displeasure.
In correspondence seen by Record Sport , James Dunn told Rory’s dad Kenni: “This will affect the boys’ playing time on a Sunday and starting place when they start missing training due to playing or training with school or county.”

Club Chairman Robert Wilson declined to comment.
Not a good look for the club!

Don't know what all the fuss is about. When you sign for a pro club surely such things as school games & county trials become irrelevant? And if you miss training with the club you have signed with, for any reason, why should you expect to be in the starting XI?
If parents of a kid being offered a contract of any kind fail to involve themselves sufficiently in the process so that they have no idea what is being signed, who is at fault? If someone signs a contract without reading it properly & the contract includes the phrase "I agree to supply doughnuts every Friday" then they better get a regular order in with Krispy Kreme (other doughnut suppliers are available as the source was not specified).
Having said all of that, we are Livingston FC, so it goes without saying that we will be hit with a transfer embargo, be demoted to the Lowland League & this will become a whole new contract law known as the "Hamilton" - a schoolboy signing law with the same far reaching consequences as the "Bosman".
In all honesty the club should just release the lad & let him go & play with his mates.

Thought that too, why is he going training with another team when he's signed for an SPFL team, it doesn't exactly show him as being very committed to having a footballing career, or having a good attitude. Best all round if we part company with the boy.

I've got a friend in the U18s squad and he wasn't allowed to play in the county team/school team over fears he might get injured -ironically he's just damaged ligaments in his foot training with the club, but he understood. Should be no problem in keeping youth players out of school teams imo however the way in which it's been reported does not come out well for the club.

Yeah it's no different to senior players not being allowed to do certain sporting activities in case they get injured. Remember Griffiths was said to have got injured having a kick about with his mates, just before a Scotland game too, and made up a story about injuring himself running for a bus.
Still wondering why you'd train for a school team or County team when you've signed for Livingston, would he do that if Celtic had signed him I wonder, sounds like he isn't taking it seriously. Has been dropped from playing and has taken a huff and wants away.

I think that's the problem when you sign children, or at least players who lack the mental and emotional maturity to manage themselves. Doesn't help that society is dominated with snowflakes who use the excuse that they have a 'right' to do whatever they please. Livingston will be hammered despite the fact that other teams have taken the same action.

They have been told to release the kid. The "well being" experts involved want the compliance officer to punish them over & above this ruling.
One of the issues was the delay in dating the kid's paperwork until his time at his previous boys club officially ended. During this time he was training & presumably playing for Livi. This is standard procedure but the "concern" is this - what if someone abused him at Livi during this time, there would be no formal record of him being there.
However this is simply ridiculous, surely the vetting procedures are now in place to stop this kind of thing and life itself is full of risks, if we based our decisions or actions on worst case scenarios always happening we would never get out of bed....unless we were already out of bed in which case we wouldn't get into bed!!
I agree LP - far too many people insisting on their rights at the expense of other people's rights & being offended by everything.

Yeah i'm a bit worried about this, and what the compliance officer will do, surely it will be something like a fine and not a points deduction, the season is going so well, but with Livi there is always something to come along and waste it.

Can't see how they could justify a points deduction for the first team when the issue concerns a schoolboy who was nowhere near being quoted for that team. If they tried that I'm sure we'd have a very strong case against the Blazers.

Yeah you just fear the worst where the SFA are concerned, they haven't been shy on hitting us with points deductions before. Everything is just going too good for us just now too, and our past experience of being a complete mess it's hard to shake that feeling of something is bound to go wrong from somewhere off field.

Teen hopeful Rory Hamilton, right, has scored a stunning victory after Livingston were found guilty of riding roughshod over the rights of children.
The SFA’s Young Player Wellbeing Panel have ordered the Championship club to release the 16-year-old from his contract after registration breaches.
Livingston wanted to keep their pro-youth player under contract until June 2019 in order to claim compensation if he moved to another senior club.
However, their claims were thrown out at Hampden on Thursday when a tribunal heard Rory paid £20-a-month to play for the club, even though it’s in the Club Academy Scotland system.
When we get the written judgement we’ll ask the SFA compliance officer to take action against Livingston.”
Livingston chairman Robert Wilson was not available for comment.

Typical sensationalist rubbish. Firstly the Well Being Panel is not a court of law and therefore use of the word "Dock" is complete b0110x Secondly the panel can only review the case and present their findings to the compliance officer who will either cancel or otherwise the boys registration.

To be honest the failure rate of 16 year old's not making the grade is almost soul destroying. Even when we were winning the (Under 19's?) league year after year very few of the boys were ever kept on and, even then, the majority were let go after a year. For all his hype Knox is the only one who seems to have survived more than a couple of seasons.
We now have the other three (Sampson; Ogilvie and Jack Hamilton) producing the good for lower league sides but I would suggest they still have another year of being loaned out.
Most non-premiership sides have now dismantled their youth systems and proceed on a volunteer basis, I think Falkirk was the last to actually employ full-time staff to manage this, and look to developing talent in lower or non-league sides which is a lot cheaper and possibly you can see what you're about to buy.
Unfortunately it doesn't bode well for young developing talent outside the main cities where non league sides are at a premium and spaces will be very limited.
On to Orco's comment about moving to another club; I wonder if that other club could be, for example Falkirk or Dunfermline and if so have family ties had something to do with it?

Disappointing that Livi have been found guilty of breaching this young lads contract and that this hasn't warranted any comment from the chairman.

This does not send a positive message out to others who may wish to join our youth ranks. If the treatment of Rory is true then Im afraid its dispicable to treat someone like we have alledged to do, mind you we seem to have a knack of doing such things.

Yeah the DR are desperate for a comment from Livingston too, but I suspect their reasons are different from yours Pedro. May not be wise to say anything before the compliance officer decides if he's going to do anything, the DR would be all over it looking to inflame the situation further.

That's a fair point, I suppose. I agree that the DR would likely put their spin on anything the club said. Hopefully the club will put their side forward publicly once the dust has settled.

Disappointing that Livi have been found guilty of breaching this young lads contract and that this hasn't warranted any comment from the chairman. Not sure that's correct; as its a tribunal there no question of guilt or innocence but that in their view the contract is unenforceable. Their findings are passed on to the compliance officer who decides whether to cancel the lads registration. Not sure why it is felt the club should make a statement on this; would have thought they had far more important things to deal with. Certainly a statement to the daily ranger should be the last thing they should do.

Not so sure what you feel is so despicable here. With a youth squad of probably more than 20 youngsters all desperate to play I would think it was really unfair to play someone who may already be tired ahead of someone who had been saving himself for that opportunity. I remember one of my friends complaining that although his son went to every after school training session at InverAlmond; the teacher often chose those who hadn't bothered just because he felt they were the better talent. Repeatedly the lad was left on the bench as a result despite putting the effort in. For that was really despicable. Turning up and expecting to play smacks of billy big baws attitude in my opinion.

The DR are just a rag version of an internet troll, print a headline that is factually incorrect and exaggerate a story to try and get a bite from Livingston so they can escalate the story to keep it going.
