Looking forward to this. First game of the league season and I can't wait. Halkett is suspended so some rearrangements in defence to be made. Willie Gibson is missing for them, which is a relief. Width and pace from Cadden and Mullin, and goals from Buchanan. We look to be capable of scoring from midfield and, from set pieces, from defenders. Home win by 2 goals.

Be interesting to see how we compare to the games at the end of last season v Stranraer.
Got to be looking for a home win to start us off on the right foot.

Can't see anything but an away win with at least one goal from 25+ yards out

Why is realism negativity? I have seen 2 games so far; one a gallant attempt that ended in failure & one an expected win; the performance in the win was poor compared to the performance in the win. It is too early to speak highly of the team (which showed great promise against St Mirren) & it is too early to speak entirely negatively of the team (which was poor against Edinburgh but go the job done). Thereafter, by all accounts we lost to Ayr & Hamilton but were somewhat unlucky to do so. Last season we could live with the best (decent home results against the Huns) & couldn't live with the worst. On our day we should be one of the main challengers in this league, if its not our day often enough we could just as easily be amongst the strugglers. So it is anyone's guess which Livi will turn up.
Hopefully, we get off to a good start & build on it but I've seen too many false dawns since we dropped out of the top division to be entirely positive until I see the evidence of progress for myself. Based on the last 10 years or so, that's not negative, its realistic.
Or, given previous posts on other threads, were you going for irony?

Superb first half today, we knocked the ball about really well. Our midfield look 100 times better than last season what a difference having wingers!!
Second half we were really slow out the traps. Defence allowed their striker to turn and was always going to score from there. Kelly had an outstanding save to keep us ahead at 2-1 if it went 2-2 I think we would of lost it. Buchs made a difference when he came on and also thought the boy Watt showed promise.
If we can play like that every week minus our 20 mins blip itll be a good season.

Fantastic win and start to season , the first half was a pleasure to watch. Who is the number 6 for us he looks a right quality player haven't seen a midfielder look so composed and good on ball in years. Danny Mullen had a great game and lovely goal. Pitts showed good energy all game and his first was a cracker. Still getting used to all the new boys names. Fantastic start well done livi

If that is a taste of things to come bring it on... Agree with the thoughts above, first half was particularly good... And yet we scored more in the second half than we did in the first. Both 1st half goals were screamers; Pittman working it right before bulleting the shot to the opposite corner after having dragged the keeper over and leaving a huge area to aim at and follow that with Mullen hitting the other corner...that was more like it from him. Still goes down too easily but at least he was getting fouls today.
Kelly didn't really have much to do but made 2 or 3 excellent stops. Neill did very well at RB Longridge was assured and whipped in a superb cross which Watt smacked off the crossbar before Pittman fired it in. Crighton and Lithgow were solid and cleared their lines. Miller & Byrne forming a good midfield partnership Mullin & Cadden make all the difference to the way we play Pittman was simply outstanding, excellent goals Mullen, see comments above Subs Buchanan was calmness personified at the pen and took his second very well Sinclair had an impact Watt looks like he might develop into a decent player
Hoppy got them fired up for the first half but his half time talk must have sent them to sleep but after he was sent to the stand we seemed to step it up again
All in all a very good start, now keep it going

Must say I thought Neill was superb today and motm. He was sensational at RB, was a total joy to watch that performance yesterday and can't wait for Airdrie who will prove along with Alloa our toughest test of the season.
But again team was fantastic today but special mention to, Neill, Cadden, Buchanan when he came on, both mullin and Mullen who Imo stood out

I was worried about Neill playing at RB but he had a really good game playing there, looked very assured linking up with players down the wing.
Watt was tremendous when he came on, got stuck in and fought hard to keep the ball and then lay it off for Buchanan's second goal, and hit the bar for Pittman to pounce on the rebound for his second goal too. Great to see we have such a strong bench with all three subs making an impact on the game.
As has been said, the first half was all Livi and we really could've been out of sight, but second half we dropped back into our half and stopped pressing them further up the pitch, which gave them time and space to mount attacks, inviting them onto our goal. You could see their goal coming and but for Kelly they almost got a second one. However our substitutions changed things and we pushed back up the pitch forcing them to play it quicker, and took back control of the game. I think the score line reflected our performance, in fact it could easily have been more.
Not getting too carried away but we're playing lovely attacking football, which is good to watch, hopefully a few more wins will attract more fans down to our games.

I thought Neill did his job yesterday but no more than that. He irritates me with his infuriating habit of wrapping his arms round opposition players giving away fouls in dangerous positions.

Great start to the season. We could have scored many more and created so many chances in the game, particularly from wide areas. Fundamentally different approach to last season, and I'm a fan of it. The result will give the players confidence and send out an early signal to the rest of the league that we're up for it. Whilst it seems odd to suggest it after a 5-1 victory, I think we need a tall striker that we could deploy at appropriate times throughout the season. Yesterday was one game and we have 35 more to play in the league (at least). So a tall striker, 6 feet and more (if Orr is only on loan) seems logical if we are to have variation and options. Just a thought.

Halkett was suspended. Neill got down the wing and linked well setting up attacks, deserves credit where it's due, he had a good game.

I agree, Neill seems to be able to cover in any back 4 position, I thought Pittman was easily man of the match and what a difference Buchanan made when he came on, yes Mullen scored a cracker but he cant lead the line like Buchanan who should start before him every time
