What a piece of nonsense this is. If Junior clubs are considered good enough for the Scottish Cup why not invite them to join this ? Cannot see how it will make financial sense for an NI or Welsh team to come up here, and vice versa, probably midweek , and expect to cover their costs? Bunch of bloody jokers at SPFL!!

If each round is to be regionalised presumably the two Welsh teams will play each other and ditto the NI teams... Thus rendering their inclusion an irrelevance. I notice no mention of Petrofac, presumably they no longer sponsor the event ?

If so , it still means that one NI and one Welsh team, if good enough, could have several journeys to Scotland or the other way about. Makes no sense to me at all.

NI and Welsh teams enter at the last 16 stage Yes but the blurb said each round is regionalised....so unless that is wrong then the Welsh & Irish are either going to play against the other team from their country or they are exempt from regionalisation or the blurb was factually wrong.

I see your point but surely they will not make them play each other. Said somewhere that 1 Welsh team and 1 NI team are guaranteed a home tie. It's an interesting concept but sets an interesting precedent

I'd like to think they weren't bringing in two from each country just to eliminate one from each country right away; defeats the purpose.
If they want to do it properly they should have a number of teams from each country; playing regionalised with the winners of each region then playing a knock out tournament. But this is just a hodge podge waste of time & effort. But if a Welsh or Irish side wins it, at least it will become obvious how far our game has fallen & maybe they'll actually do something about it.

IMO this new format has less to do with refreshing the competition with new ideas than opening the door to future opportunities for the top league. The inclusion of the under 20's I view with suspicion and allowing teams from other countries in is really quite irrelevant to lower league Scottish teams. I was perfectly happy with the challenge cup as it was in giving a chance at winning a trophy to teams that would otherwise not.
