Is there any news whatsoever about the vacant manager's position? Have interviews taken place? When is an appointment likely? Who's in the frame? Who's taking training in the meantime? Who's picking the team on Saturday? The silence is deafening! Surely this is a great chance for the club to keep the fans engaged and informed? If ever there was a need for regular updates - even if it's to say that there's progress being made in the background - then surely it's now. My fear is that the vacuum created by the absence of news may simply result in further uncertainty anongst an already anxious squad.

The Courier reports that there was a board meeting yesterday and further interviews were taking place today, with the club hoping to have the new man in place for Saturday. It quoted Hopkin as saying he would consider the position if it was offered to him but also seemed to indicate that he sees his strengths as being a coach. He also mentioned that a lot of applications had been received.
It also states we are in discussion with Dundee United to extend McCallum's loan period

If I was DJ, I'd be looking for a move out of this shambles asap!

If I was DJ, I'd be looking for a move out of this shambles asap! I would argue that things have improved on field when DJ has not been playing. Any keeper would lose goals with kamikaze defending that we are prone to, but all to often DJ's 'flair for flamboyant' has cost us. Even when we are chasing a game DJ likes to clown around and time waste before invariably kicking the ball out for a throw in. If he could find a club needing an average goalie then we should take whatever they are offering

The appointment of the new manager is critical and needs to happen quickly. Our rivals are getting in new players to freshen up their squads. Nobody is going to agree to come to us when they don't know who the manager is! Surely, in coming to the decision to sack Burchill, those in charge must have known that it was essential to have his replacement in position by the start of the transfer window - even if it was only to ensure we look stable enough to bring in a loan player or two and move a couple of the current squad out?! We have an appalling record of self-destructing through incompetence.

Rumours that Ian Murray was seen at Almondvale (or Tony Macaroni...) on Saturday..

If you were Ian Murray and you saw that performance yesterday, would it make you more likely or less likely to want to become the next manager?

If you were Ian Murray and you saw that performance yesterday, would it make you more likely or less likely to want to become the next manager? I would hope he'd see where the obvious weaknesses are and think he could sort us out. We've had results against everyone except Hibs, and even then we've had good performances in our last encounter with them, surely can't be that bad a squad to iron out the kinks and get us showing some consistency. Right now we're lacking in any form of management though, and need someone in before our next game to get us organised. Burchill & then Hopkin, have had all season to work out our best starting eleven but still chop and change every flipping game, and don't seem to know what a winger is.

It's official, Hopkin is the man until the end of the season according to the OS

Oh well that's it then. More of the same dross we saw on Saturday and the relegation play-offs at the end of the season at best.
Did any of the Board actually attend last Saturday's farce against QOS and Falkirk the previous week? If they did they must surely have witnessed the fans' reaction to Hopkin's team selection and substitutions.
A cheap option, nothing more. How many fans will continue to turn up to watch the predictable p*sh that we are about to be subjected to?
We would have been as well keeping Burchill.

Out with the old and in with the, well Old
What difference has he made from Burchill, nothing is going to change and we are going to be facing a relegation dog fight without having someone at the helm who can conjure up a meaningful fight

Probably the only option based on budget.
I hope he proves us all wrong

It was certainly the only financially viable option. Alternatively, another dismissal leading to paid gardening leave - followed by an additional salary for a new manager. I'd like to congratulate David Hopkin and wish him every success. He has one transfer window to wheel and deal in the bargain basement. Let's hope he can work some magic. The negative posters are unhelpful. He's the new Head Coach so let's get behind him. The team was poor and lacking in energy against QOS. We did OK in the first half against Falkirk. DJ hasn't made a save yet in the two games he's played but we've conceded 4 goals. Hopkin's first game was a 4-1 demolition of St Mirren in Paisley - so overall he's had a fair start in the caretaker role. Let's see what the permanent position does for his confidence in the hot seat. I've liked that he's played only one holding midfielder rather than two. I've liked that he's changed the team in an effort to freshen things up. I've liked that he's used all of his subs each game, though I don't agree with some of the selections, changes and subs. Perhaps a couple of fresh faces in January will help his cause. Remember the call for the head of Alan Archibald when he had an initial bad run - same goes for Hamilton's manager Martin Canning. Sticking with the manager and the team is what's needed now - we all know that's essential so let's get behind everyone at the club and give them our very best, unreserved support.

Not looking good for us, this doesn't inspire confidence within the fans.

Not happy with this decision..
But time to put that all aside and support our new manager. Hopefully he can steer us to the dizzy heights of 8th and avoid the dramas of the play-offs!

Crap decision imo - I will not go back to the vale for the remainder of season, there's no sign of improvement , no entertainment - the "express" tap2 card is going in the bin. Relegation here we come.

Goodbye. Change your label to LiviQuitter in that case. Thanks for your support. You're entitled to your opinion as am I , I've been at the Vale every season since the start and this is by far the worst Playing and some of the worst board decisions ever . I've always had a season ticket and its now my choice not to continue using it for the rest of the season. Will i renew next season who knows ? but there is nothing happening to sway my decision.

Relegation here we come. It's exactly people like you that are one of reasons our attendances are declining. I don't like the decision either but I'll support it as I want what's best for my club. I'd much rather see us being wiser fanically that burst the bank to try and get things. I remember last season at Cowdenbeath when we won 2-1 adfer they scored a fan behind me says " that's it I'm done I can't watch this anymore. Down we go we will be relagated against hibs" look what happened. Have some faith

I've yet to see the board being wiser financially about anything, they gave Burchill a two year contract only to put him on gardening leave till it runs out. Now they're hamstrung financially for that mistake and are forced to go with Hopkin, and pray the teams around us will be worse than us.
I agree with you though, we as fans support the team, through bad times and good times. We'll still be here as fans long after the current board have gone, we've seen so many board changes already and will hopefully have a club long enough to see a few more.
