I have decided to resign as manager of Alloa Athletic with immediate effect.
Football is a results driven business and I am the first to hold my hands up and say that our run of results this season have not been good enough. A number of factors have contributed to this, but I take full responsibility. I have had an open and honest discussion with the chairman on it. Sometimes freshening things up can be the catalyst to turn a season around. I have great respect for the chairman and everyone associated with this great wee club. I would like to give the club time to find someone else before the transfer window opens up in January and provide a new manager with the opportunity to influence any personnel changes they see fit for the second half of the season.
I leave Alloa with some great memories from my short time here. The fans and the many people throughout the club have been fantastic to work with. The run of positive results and performances at the end of last season that culminated in winning the Championship Play-off final will live long in my memory. I wish everyone associated with Alloa Athletic FC every success in the future and sincerely hope they extend their record breaking stay in the second tier of Scottish football to a fourth season.

So, we've probably been a bit lucky that Alloa have been as bad as they have so far this season otherwise we'd have been in that bottom place ourselves. Typically, the manager leaves in the lead up to the week when Alloa come to Livi so the players will be out to prove themselves ahead of a new manager coming in.
We'll need to make sure we don't give them a chance to start turning things round and get another 3 points further away from them.
