Does anyone else feel bad for DJ. I thought that when McCallum originally cam in it would be as backup as DJ has probably been one of our best players since he broke into the team. Does anyone know why he can't get back in? I mean they are probably similar standard goalies and isnt it better to have a permanent keeper between the sticks

Probably because his form was poor before McCallum came in. His positioning at free kicks was worse than hopeless, he shied away from crosses more than Dracula & his kicking was sporadic at best.
I feel more sorry for Gould as he was signed as a back up but hasn't had a sniff at the first team. There may be good reason for that but if so why sign him in the first place?

McCallum is different but no better than DJ IMO. He hides at corners and punches rather than catches. DJ's form had slipped a bit but bringing in a loan goalie of similar standard was a bit drastic. I prefer to give Livi players games.

I prefer to give Livi players games. The number of times that Livi have brought in loan players over the years that have been no better than the players we already have on the books has been incredible.

And this has happened across different owners & management teams; which only goes to prove that the "pros" think differently to the fans.

Such is the nature of football management...was it Tommy Docherty or perhaps Malcolm Allison who said the only thing certain about becoming a football manager is that you will get the sack?
Not sure its strictly true in all circumstances but it must be a pretty high percentage.

DJ made mistakes that cost us goals, McCallum hasn't had much to do in the way of making saves because our defence has been pretty solid so it is difficult to compare them.
Would DJ make mistakes that would cost us goals now with the defence being better, who knows.
His positioning at free kicks cost us goals in 3 games we would most likely have got something from though, and if he hasn't got that sorted out we'd be nervous wrecks whenever the opposition got a free kick just outside the box. The Hibs game was lost only because of that exact same bad positioning, just can't afford to be doing that, especially after playing so well only to chuck the game away needlessly.
He may well have got us at least a point against Morton though as he's a fantastic penalty stopper and has got us points in the past.
As was said in another thread, competition for places keeps players on their toes so hopefully DJ will be in top form when he gets jhis place back in Dec/Jan. McCallum's loan spell in up late December, unless it gets extended.

McCallum is a former Scotland u19 international where DJ isnt by the logic alone you can say McCallum is the better goalie.
From what Ive seen of the 2 goalies McCallum commands his area and back 4 much better than DJ. Ok he has been a bit unconvincing on cross balls but hes coming for them and at least getting a punch on them to get them out the area. DJ will happily stay on his line and let the defenders deal with what should be bread and butter for a goalie. Shot stopping wise DJ is good but everything has to be a flying tip over the bar,McCallum on the other hand will take 2 steps to the side and make a clean catch but no one will remember this as its not dramatic enough.
If Dundee Utd sign the former Japanese international they are waiting on a work permit for, expect McCallum to be signed for the rest of the season.

As mentioned elsewhere regarding DJ's free kick positioning - simply do away with the wall and let him treat them like penalties - job's a good'un.

Walls are outdated IMO; players can bend it round, over & even shoot under it when the wall jumps.
Get the players positioned with gaps so the keeper can see the ball.
