Well I decided to be a "real" fan & go today. Apart from losing the goal we were the better side in the first half but we had no cutting edge today. Took too long to move the ball around, especially in the second half. Morton raised their performance in the second half but on the balance of play we did not deserve to lose. Their keeper was definitely dodgy & we should have peppered him with shots to spill & follow up on the rebounds but we tried to beat them by playing through them which only works with an injection of pace or we tried to beat them in the air, which was always going to be 50/50.
Most disappointing thing about the result was that we could have gone clear in 7th & closing in on 6th; instead we are adrift with the other 3 albeit clear of Alloa.

All Morton had to offer was a soft penalty goal. Our keeper didn't have another save to make. After scoring in 5 minutes they sat in and made it difficult for us to penetrate. The referee didn't help with a series of petty decisions against us often in areas where we had a chance. It is little wonder our disciplinary record looks bad when yellow cards are dished out for next to nothing. Faria deserved his for high boot but the others were for very little. Looks like after our two wins we are back to being the better team and coming away with nothing. Story of our season so far.

I agree with much of what has been said so far. We were the better team and came away with nothing. Morton were very negative and they caused the game to be stopped regularly with a series of fouls. Time wasting was evident throughout, even as early as midway through the first half and then much more blatantly for the entire second half. Despite our possession, we didn't creat as many chances as I'd have liked. We lack creativity through the centre of the park and it's screaming out for a change. Faria was caught in possession so many times or misplaced too many passes. We need someone in that area of the pitch that can do the simple things, retain possession and break up the play. Hibs and Rangers next - then we should look to pick up points again.

That was shit. Burchill doesn't have a clue. Do you just come on the match threads when we lose so you can have a go at Burchill?
Thought we played well enough, nice patient play in the build up and were unlucky a few times with the final ball. Thought we should've had a penalty too but ref was giving us nothing, same with the bookings, seemed he was blinkered to some of the challenges Morton were making but happy to give us Yellow cards.
2nd half I was hoping we'd try something different, Morton were sitting in and we couldn't get through their defence so we needed to get down the wings and stretch them, admittedly we don't have any wingers but maybe we should've tried to get two players working overlaps to get in behind their defence, Gallagher tried to do that right enough but Longridge knocked the ball back the way which was annoying. Really could've done with Mullen and Hippo on the wings, wonder what's up with Hippo not being on the bench now!
Don't know if Morton play so defensively at home all the time or Duffy was just very good tactically getting it spot on against us, really need to be getting a winger in though to give us another option when something like this happens again.

I agree we looked the better team but in this game we didn't really deserve anything as we didn't create clear chances to score. Morton deserve credit for defending so well and having a game plan to nullify us, it was up to us to break them down but we didn't have the tools to do so. A draw would've been a fair reflection of the game but alas, we conceded a penalty.

Does anyone know why we only have 5 subs every week, when we are allowed 7 (and our opponents always have 7)? I accept that there are internal issues concerning Hippo and Moses - that's up to the Manager - but surely a couple of youngsters can be asked to take up those vacancies. When we're winning 4-1 and 3-0, it doesn't really matter. But when we're losing and need to change things, having only 5 subs limits out options.

Hippo came off the bench against Raith so it seemed any issues between him & Burchy were resolved...perhaps not.

Yeah, don't think we were unlucky this time though, we just weren't good enough to break down a resolute defence and had no options from the bench to change how we were playing.

Yeah, don't think we were unlucky this time though, we just weren't good enough Why, on this occasion at least, we're we not good enough? Tactics, formation? Players not as good as Mortons? Players not doing what they're told? What is it that they're being told?

We didn't move the ball quickly enough. We didn't shoot enough. We didn't get round the back enough. We didn't pressurise a dodgy keeper enough. We played the type of game that suited the Morton defence & weren't smart enough to work out how to change that. We weren't helped by the officiating which penalised us for less than Morton were getting away with.
Why? Who knows? Your last two questions should be directed at the management.

Players not doing what they're told? What is it that they're being told? We couldn't break them down and didn't create enough chances to be seen as deserving of the points.
In both the Dumbarton and St Mirren defeats we dominated the game, looked by far the better team, created lots of chances, and lost a goal to a wonder strike against St Mirren after limiting them to only two shots on goal all game. Dumbarton also only had two shots on our goal, but scored with both of them. .
We limited Morton to scoring from a penalty right enough but the main difference in those games were our clear chances from our dominance, I came away thinking how did we lose that game on both occasions, didn't come away from the Morton game saying that.
I don't think our tactics were to blame first half as we had just won 2 games playing well so why change it, 2nd half though we knew Morton had set up to stop White and Buchanan playing through the middle and we didn't really change anything, other than fire balls into them instead of playing it through the Morton defence. That didn't work either as it looked like we had to get in behind them down the wings or fire in some long range shots to look for rebounds off the dodgy keeper. Suppose we didn't have any options from the bench to change much but Hippo would've given us something different, dear knows why he was left out.
