How does pleading not guilty equate to showing remorse? If he has expressed any sorrow it'll have been because he knew he was bang to rights and will shortly be playing hunt the soap in cell block H.
As for not showing remorse...someone who pleads "not guilty" is hardly likely to show remorse as this would indicate guilt; if he still insists after being found guilty that he is innocent then why would he show remorse, as this would contradict his claims of innocence.
I believe he has admitted his part in the assault (or fight) but denied he used any implement (or baseball bat as in this case). He did also say he regretted his involvement. Having known a number of old time close knot families from the sticks I am aware that family pressure can be very strong and the fact that his uncle appears to have been the one how started the second fight really doesn't sit easy.
Also I do think that you can show remorse without necessarily accepting all blame; in a car accident you may express sympathy and remorse for someone injured and wonder if there was anything you could have done to avoid the situation without actually saying the accident was your fault.
I can identify with those who think he shouldn't play for our side again and if he hadn't already played for us for a year without any other incident then I might have agreed. I do however think he has shown him to be a reasonable young man on the pitch, and off it, since joining us.; been good with the fans and done his best for the club; and with that in mind I'd be mindful of keeping him on if we can.
I do find it strange that some are saying they never heard of this incident before; it's been well discussed on all forums to the level that some even thought that he'd be missing for several months during the season if things went that way.
