Livingston's local parkrun is held at Cramond promenade, Edinburgh ( course details here). It's a weekly, timed, 5k run/jog/walk every Saturday morning at 9.30am. It's you against the clock. It's FREE to take part but you do need to register before your first run. You only need to register that one time. You're given a personal barcode which you print out and bring with you to identify yourself ( register here). There are people with all sorts of abilities who do parkrun. From experienced club runners to children accompanying their parents. From sprightly elders to mums and dads running along whilst pushing bairns in buggies. I probably fall into the category of 'getting on a bit male trying to work off the Krispy Kreme excess'. It only takes a few moments to register and it really is a great experience! Go on, sign up and give it a go. You might enjoy it! Edinburgh parkrun homepage www.parkrun.org.uk/edinburgh/

Thanks for the plug here Peter. Should have thought about it myself! Doh!!!
As an aside for those who wish to know, Glasgow parkrun currently hold the all time Scottish parkrun attendance record currently standing at 491.
Edinburgh parkrun recently topped out on a 467 and so the drive began. Falkirk parkrun has unfortunately been postponed until 6th April and a number of their parkrunners are now attending Edinburgh. With all that in mind, and some shameless plugging, we are hoping to take the record from Glasgow and lodge it in the east. If we do 500 then Edinburgh will be the second only parkrun in existence to do so with the first occasion having happened at 'Mother' parkrun in Bushy many years ago.
Peter has very kindly covered all the bases with extra importance being placed on registering with Edinburgh parkrun prior to attendind and also please remember to bring your barcode with you. These points are key to whole event.
You'll be made very welcome and I can assure you that it's one of the friendliest sporting events you'll ever participate in.

I've been along once and was impressed with just how well organised the whole thing is - especially given it's all seen to by volunteers.
The course is fairly flat and as it's not a 'race' as such, you're only trying to beat your own personal best and can therefore batter round the 5k at your own pace.
Even if it's not something you think you'd fancy/be able to attend on a regular basis, why not make the effort to head to this one and be a part of a wee bit of parkrun history? :-)

Edinburgh parkrun facebook page - www.facebook.com/edinburghparkrunBig record attempt tomorrow at half past 9 @ Cramond promenade. Hoping for more than 500 people to take part! If you'd like to take part then all you have to do is register, print out your personal barcode and bring your personal barcode with you (don't forget it). If you get there about ten past/quarter past 9 then there is always a briefing for first timers where you're given a rundown of where the toilets are, what to do when you cross the finish line etc. It's all very friendly and very welcoming. Go on, give it a go. You might surprise yourself.

I'll tell you when my head thaws out. I'll go along with that - was feckin' freezing! Didn't quite get to the 500 mark - think there was 424 there - but the weather probably had a big say in that. Was absolutely pelting it down with rain and sleet and for the first 2-2.5km, it was right in your face. Spoke to ParkrunPro who's done the run about 150 odd times and he reckoned it's possibly the worst weather he's ever seen at a Parkrun. Still a good effort from the 424 who climbed out of bed and done the run. I managed to beat my previous time by 119 seconds so was chuffed with that.
