Well didnt see that one coming.
10 men St Mirren should have been 3 points to us. However positive note again see enough potential in the squad not to get worried yet.
Thought we lacked ideas in the second half especially but credit where credit due St Mirren stuck to their task and we couldnt break them down.
A few players were woeful though sorry Dec but not ypur best game. Danny and Pitman would have been as well sitting beside me in the second half.
One word about Thomson the referee he was possibly the worst ref Ive seen at the vale in many a year.
Not the best result today but im sure there will be a few more twists and turns as the season progresses.

Longridge at the back got exposed in the second half once we went behind and our defending of set pieces let us down. I think we need to get a CB in as cover for Lithgow till he's back. Certainly didn't see that coming when we looked fully in control going in at HT. St Mirren basically did to us what usually do to other teams and them going to ten men probably helped them win the game, otherwise I doubt they'd have sat in and hit us on the break. And we would've had a lot more room to get through on their goal.
Other results went our way with Brechin and Dumbarton losing, along with Inverness drawing, I still think we can move away from all three of those teams, we just need to get that first win under our belt to get that psychological hurdle out of the way.

Immediately after Irvine was sent off we had them rattled but they got to half time & Ross got them reorganised. Second half we had the possession but didn't do enough with it. We needed to be passing it quickly & having runners dragging defenders out of position but all we did was pass it slowly & send in poor crosses that their big defence dealt with. Then we brought on the big guys & started playing to their feet! Why do we do that? It was a flaw last season too; high ball to the wee guys but play to the feet of the big fellas - go figure.
They caught us on the break, winning fouls & capitalising on our poor defending of free kicks. On the whole I thought we didn't deserve to lose the game on the balance of play but frankly it's ridiculous to lose 2 goals to 10 men; so disappointing all round & we will need a big improvement to avoid another basement battle, because we would probably have coped with our errors last season but we won't get away with them this season.
